PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, As satrap, 323-305 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 15.66 g, 12 h), uncertain mint 3 in Egypt, probably Memphis, circa 306-303. Diademed head of the deified Alexander III to right, with horn of Zeus Ammon above his ear, wearing elephant skin headdress and aegis around his neck; small Δ on aegis. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡ[ΟΥ] Athena Alkidemos advancing right, brandishing spear with her right hand and holding shield in her left; to left, monogram; to right monogram and eagle standing right on thunderbolt. CPE 89. SNG Copenhagen 23. Svoronos 139. Beautifully toned and with a bold portrait of fine style. Some scratches and graffiti, otherwise, about extremely fine.
